BA 330 NOT coded equivalent to BA 230/BA 230H. Cannot code a lower-division course equivalent to an upper-division course. It would make the distinction meaningless and distort the 60-credit upper-division university graduation requirement.

Proposal

Proposal ID: 101491
Type: New Course
Submission Date: March 19, 2018 3:14am
Approval Date: April 16, 2018 9:41am
Effective Term: Summer 2018
Justification:
We currently offer different sections of BA 230 Business Law for business majors and non-majors. This causes confusion among students when trying to register for the class. We need to create separate courses for majors and non-majors.

Over 90% of the non-business students who complete BA 230 have upper-division standing. The rate of students earning grades of D or F, or withdrawing from the course (DFW rate) is higher for the second-year students (14.3% for second year, 9.0 % for upper-division).

Our proposal is to create BA 330 as the business law course for non-business majors.
Comments:
Please see additional comments in the attached "BA 330 Comments and Justification". Note that since BA 230 and BA 330 will be considered equivalent, Cascades may teach a combined course for both majors and non-majors.
