Proposal

Proposal ID: 106788
Type: Change Course
Submission Date: April 1, 2019 4:44pm
Approval Date: April 29, 2019 12:05pm
Effective Term: Summer 2019
Justification:
The Math department recently decided to replace the 10-week, 4 credit course MTH 306 (Matrix and Power Series Methods) with two 5-week, 2 credit courses: MTH 264 (Introduction to Matrix Algebra) and MTH 265 (Introduction to Series). Accordingly, this proposal replaces the current MTH 321 prerequisite of MTH 306 with (MTH 264 or MTH 306). A prerequisite of MTH 265 is not needed for MTH 321, since series are not used in the course.

This proposal also removes MTH 252 as a prerequisite for MTH 321. Since MTH 252 is a prerequisite for each of MTH 341, 306, and 264, the prerequisite of MTH 252 will automatically be satisfied by any student having taken one of those three courses.
Comments:
This change in prerequisites for MTH 321 has been approved by the Math department's Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and by Professor David Koslicki, who developed and teaches the course.
