An exception has been granted to the Catalog Year Policy to allow this change to be effective in Winter 2020 (202002). MTH 306 is now by department approval only because it was replaced by MTH 264 and MTH 265 in Summer 2019. Allowing this change will mean students in MTH 264/265 do not have to be granted overrides from the department to register for the class if they choose to offer it in Winter or Spring 2020.

Proposal

Proposal ID: 106792
Type: Change Course
Submission Date: April 16, 2019 4:55pm
Approval Date: August 9, 2019 5:45pm
Effective Term: Winter 2020
Justification:
The Math department recently decided to replace the 10-week, 4 credit course MTH 306 (Matrix and Power Series Methods) with two 5-week, 2 credit courses: MTH 264 (Introduction to Matrix Algebra) and MTH 265 (Introduction to Series). Accordingly, this proposal replaces the MTH 481 prerequisite of MTH 306 with (MTH 306 or (MTH 264 and MTH 265)). The content of MTH 481 relies on both power series and matrix algebra; therefore, both MTH 264 and 265 are required in place of MTH 306.
Comments:
This change in prerequisites has been approved by the Math department's Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and by recent MTH 481 instructors.
